Our new foundation is here

After a long and thorough process, Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation and Toronto Rehab Foundation are amalgamating to form a new legal entity effective April 1, 2021. Going forward, donors will be able to support research, education and a broad spectrum of patient care at UHN – including rehabilitation – through a single foundation.

This is an incredible opportunity to make an even bigger impact on the lives of those who need UHN – on every step of their journey.

A new name for an expanded scope

As of April 1, 2021, our new legal name will be UHN Foundation. The name was chosen based on the results of extensive research, including with our donor and volunteer communities, UHN stakeholders and the general public.

The name reflects our expanded fundraising mandate and the fact that the new foundation will be responsible for raising funds for four of UHN’s five major institutions: Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and The Michener Institute of Education at UHN. Fundraising for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre will remain with the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

The rollout of the new name will occur in phases over the coming months.

Exciting milestone on the road to a healthier world

Donor support through both Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation and Toronto Rehab Foundation has helped UHN become the number-one research hospital in the country and home to the number-four hospital in the world. By becoming UHN Foundation, we can enable the incredible life-saving work at UHN to continue – so our healthcare heroes can pursue more knowledge, find new and better treatments and cures, train the next generation of medical leaders, and support patients on their road to recovery.

“We’re so thrilled to be joining forces with Toronto Rehab Foundation to create UHN Foundation,” says Tennys Hanson, CEO of Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation. “Rehabilitation is a critical part of the patient journey at UHN, and we look forward to making an even bigger impact on lives through this amalgamation.”

There will be more updates on the amalgamation to come, but in the meantime, we’re so excited to build an even healthier world together.
