The “Miraculous” work at UHN Emergency

The Emergency Campaign

The Division of Emergency Medicine at University Health Network (UHN) sees over 125,000 patients annually at two sites:

• Toronto General Hospital (TGH)
• Toronto Western Hospital (TWH)

UHN’s Emergency Departments are the first point of contact for many patients entering the hospital, serving the community and beyond 24/7.

Our dedicated emergency medicine team includes 90+ physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants as well as 170+ nurses. The team has the expertise to care for the sickest and most complex patients in the country, which means our services are in high demand. Our Emergency Departments see an annual growth in volume of 3-6% that results in an increase of 7,500+ patients every year.

The current Emergency Department at TGH is 17,547 square feet – originally designed to care for about 20,000 patients a year, but currently cares for 55,000+ patients annually.

Patients come to see us during challenging times, and we need a new space with a focus on providing exceptional and compassionate care. That’s why we are building the Michael Lawrence Turk Rapid Assessment Centre, which will add 9,000 square feet of new space within the TGH Emergency Department. We require $28.5 million to make this project a reality.
